HI-MRG...MAXI-POP...PICA-POP

Listening to some of the new music I've been working on. I feel very inspired right now and am just throwing down loads of ideas to develop further.

Definitely taking a hi-NRG influence but brought up to date with other ideas. Throwing in the epic drama of Arena rock and the campness of Stock, Aitken, Waterman (particularly the early stuff). Lots of vocals, cantering basslines, lively percussion, and melodic lines. Really not sure how it will all go down but I feel like it's a good journey ahead aboard the Magic Carpet Ride.

Expect to hear a lot of fresh output from me this summer at Caligula.

Not sure how it would be classified. Some tags I think might suit the sound:

Pop Shrine

We now live in a world where the glossy, shiny packaging of pop culture screams Buy Me everywhere we look. It is a meticulous, calculated seduction that plays on our desires, aspirations and insecurities. As we rub our greasy fingers together we reach out and consume, hoping to touch beauty, success and even youth as time inevitably leaves its mark.

It is a world readily accepted by many teenage girls and mainstream gay culture. These dreamers have already realised that the brutality of real life is decidedly unattractive unless modified and restructured by the bright, candyfloss lit stages where their idols appear. TV screens, computer monitors, posters and shop windows have become like effervescent pop shrines.

It is an industry invaded by many performers whose skills have less to do with conventional ideas of ability and talent, such as singing and songwriting. It now has more to do with audience satisfaction, cute factor, and media management. The fact that it is vacuous and full of hot air is transparent but its appeal it undeniable and far reaching.

As we look up and worship these false idols we are almost contemptuous of the world we have been lured into. The irony is though that many of us are secretly wishing we could swap places with them. If only we had enough luck, stupidity or x-factor.

Wishing You The Best

WISHING YOU THE BEST

Here I am
At a junction in life
Broken hearted Venus
With a mountain to climb
And though solitude may be hard to console
It’s a journey I’ll be making on my own

Time moves on
Things always change
Now the time has come
No blame. No shame. No games

Wishing you the best
Wishing you well
I’m not the kind to kiss and tell
Wishing you the best
Let’s both be clear
Remember the laughter, not the tears

Who knows how we drifted into the dark
But complacency always leaves its mark
Minds get distracted by petty things
Forgetting to enjoy the simplest gifts

Time moves on
Things always change
Now the time has come
No blame. No shame. No games

Wishing you the best
Wishing you well
I’m not the kind to kiss and tell
Wishing you the best
Let’s both be clear
Remember the laughter, not the tears

Let’s not talk about who’s wrong or right
We both know it takes two to have a good fight
But my fighting days are done
All I want now is to enjoy the sun

Wishing you the best
Wishing you well
I’m not the kind to kiss and tell

Just remember that although I’ve left
I’ll always be wishing you the best

New Warboy DJ Mix - Paradise Mirage

Here's a new mix I did recently. A dark, acid kind of affair. It's also available on iTunes as a free podcast. Listen here
